Benfotiamine is fat-soluble and more bioavailable and physiologically active than thiamine. Benfotiamine raises the blood level of thiamine pyrophosphate (TPP), the biologically active co-enzyme of thiamine, and stimulates transketolase, a cellular enzyme essential for maintenance of normal glucose metabolic pathways.
